Good turnout of models and flyers for the Omagh MFC Open Day A good variety of models and plenty of various types of electrics, Flying wings are the big rage, I counted 8 in one battle! The First Jet Fly-IN took place over the weekend of the 7/8th of June at the Midlands Flying Club in Co. Offaly.
From the North of the country Myself, Robert, Harry, Gordon & Ken went on the Sunday, Phelim did'nt want to associate himself with us novice Jet pilots so he went on the Saturday :-)
The Midlands Flying Club have a superb site, which is owned by them. There is three wide & long closely cut runways with clear approaches from all angles. They have a clubhouse and a open shelter to store models when it rains. Andreas from the midland club had two nice Jets with him, the 1/5th scale Let Legend L39 simjet 3000 powered and His Skymaster F4 Phantom fitted with a Simjet Nexus. John Beasley had a EuroSport which was great to watch, it could nearlly hover vertical. Really slow high Alpha passes looked great. Robert had his Harpoon which is going well now, looks evil in the air with that nose and canard. Harry has the most flights of the day with his boomerang, which was one more than Phelim got the day before :-) Gordon's Savex L39 along with Roberts Harpoon. My Bobcat beside Johns big EuroSport Bobcat on Climb out Everyone sitting in front of the model enclosure enjoying the flying. There were some spooky things going on at Broughshane !
A very unusal model, looks great in the air.
The broughshane grass runway is really superb and long, a real credit to the club and the guy who cuts it! Robert Grahams Hirobo Lama with a great back drop. A few of us from LMFC went to new Buildings for the Fly-In.
Lovely weather and a good BBQ, pity more did'nt come to take avantage of a good day out. We spent that much time flying, we did'nt take many pictures ! Roberts Wot's Wot Bipe, not may of these are seen now There was a very good turnout despite the weather forecast, and as the day went on it just got better and better.
Prangster fitted with Eflite cub floats, worked very well. John Pearsons Great Planes Tiger Moth Quite a few of the Reliable Seamasters as usual Harry's Laker taxing out on the left, and below trying to sink itself on take off (kept going though) and coming in for a nice landing Gerry's plans built Twin, went well and sounded good. The first Annual Grant Capell Memorial Fly-In took place at Letterkenny on Sunday 20th April 2008.
Luckily we had some very good weather leading up to the flyin, and the newly prepaired ground in the pit/parking area was hard enough to be walked on. Should be nice & Green by the next one ! David Nolan along with Alwyn Clarke and our own Shane 'Tic Toc' McGirr gave us some fine displays of 3D heli Flying Mathew Poots about to take off with his big DA150 powered Carden Extra 260, Mathew also brought his other DA100 powered Aerobatic model, and put on some great displays. Cliffords very nice Ilyusion Shturmovik Some of the models that turned up. Some very nice scale helicopters turned up Stanleys new Cessena 310 twin, just first flown day before. Looks real in this sky with all the lights on. Flying wing launch ! Seamus's Corsair caught in mid flight Trying to organise a group pic, this was only about half the models there, and one of those times when you think, why did'nt we do it earlier in the day! Shane & Christopher at Nutts Corner Shane recieving his prize from Phelim for the third best flight of the day with his Raptor 50, Not bad considering David Nolan was first and Mathew Poots was second ! Shane with David Nolan and their 3D heli's Phelim's Wren54 powered Kangaroo Seamus's Stearman Battling the wind at Nutts Corner, looks like the pilot is waving at the spectators. View from the ballcony of the pits area, pilots watching the flying Other side with the score keepers in the corner Richard and some of the visitors from the UK Gordon with his Enticement, very good F3p model. Fancy boxes made by the UK visitors to transport their modelsOmagh MFC Open Day 14/6/8

Electric powered Wilga all foam so floats well !

* * * * * * Grant Capell Memorial Fly-In Letterkenny 20/4/8
It was a great success with a very large turnout of modellers and thier Models despite the cold easterly wind.
I counted approx 60 aeroplanes (Incl 2 Jets) and 21 helicopters at one stage. The flight line was very busy, upto 10 models in the air some times, which made following your own interesting !
